Win a Copy of the Newly Released Cookbook Best Recipes: Easy, Delicious Meals from Real Simple!

October 28, 2009

Congratulations Jennifer H.!! You are the winner of the Real Simple Cookbook!  Keep an eye on your mailbox, you should be receiving it soon!

Thank you to everyone that entered!  Be on the lookout….there are more great giveaways to come!

Great news!  I have been offered to giveaway a copy of Best Recipes: Easy, Delicious Meals that was just released yesterday by Real Simple!

rs-easy-meals_300

Best Recipes: Easy, Delicious Meals is 208 pages with full color photos with over 90 easy, delicious recipes!  I got my copy in the mail yesterday and I already have a long list of recipes I cannot wait to make!

See what Real Simple is saying about their new cookbook:

You want to feed your family (and yourself!) well, but with your busy life, getting a healthy, satisfying meal on the table sometimes seems like Mission: Impossible. For 10 years, Real Simple has been finding ways to help you fulfill that mission while saving you time, stress, and money. Here, we’ve gathered up some of our best recipes to serve anytime, anywhere-from a weeknight supper to a dinner party.

These include:
One-pot meals that require just a single pan (and hardly any cleanup)
30-minute meals to throw together at the end of a busy workday
No-cook meals for when you just don’t want to turn on the oven
Freezable meals to make ahead, for days when there’s no time to cook
Kid-friendly meals that please both them and you
Full nutritional info for every recipe, to make watching your numbers easier
Menu suggestions combining recipes for special occasions
Tricks of the trade to help you choose the freshest produce, pair pasta shapes with the best sauces, decipher the labels on chicken packages, and devein a shrimp

This is your chance to win a copy of this awesome cookbook!  All you have to do is leave a comment letting me know what you look for the most in a recipe….does it have to be super easy?  Very few ingredients?  Take less than 30 minutes?

I look forward to hearing what you look most in a recipe!  Giveaway ends Friday, November 6th. A winner will be chosen at random.  You will have 24 hours to claim your prize!  Good luck!

I look for quick, healthy and budget conscious. I have to be able to do it in the very short window between work and when the baby goes to bed…not much time!

  2. Deb says:

Not using a lot of ingredients I have to go out and buy and never use again!

  3. Susan says:

Oh Wow what a fun looking cookbook. I suppose I look for a recipe that is different -yet will excite my family. They are somewhat picky eaters but if I can find something that contains basic ingredients (that they already like) but has flair and makes a great presentation I will use it- especially for a gathering.

  4. Jari' King says:

I am always looking for new ways to make "the same old thing" seem new again. I also look for meals that are kid/teenager friendly (meaning…will they eat this?), not to mention cost efficient and that does not include ingredients that are impossible to find in the midwest. I am always open to new ideas!

  5. Janet says:

Hmmm, I would have to go with something the whole family would at least try …not too far out there or including ingredients that are hard to track down or I wouldn't normally have on hand.

  6. Beth (A Mom's Life) says:

Sounds like a great cookbook! I try to find recipes that we will all enjoy – hard to do with my two picky eaters!

I look for how much it can feed on little :)

  8. Sharon says:

I like one-pot meals and also make-ahead recipes. Since I live in the country, 35 miles from the nearest grocery store(!), I also look for recipes that contain ingredients I have on hand!

  9. Connie Enerson says:

I like simple recipes that you don’t always need a recipe to make. I don’t like to have to measure a bunch of ingredients. It doesn’t have to be a one pot meal. As I am frying my meat, I usually am boiling my macaroni if I am making a casserole and then I use one of the kettles to combine all my ingredients. If I can finish it on top of the stove, that is great otherwise, I pop the casserole in the oven until bubbly.

  10. Cheryl says:

What I look for in a recipe is nostalgia and ease. I say nostalgia because we traveled a lot when I was little and we sampled some really great cuisine. So when I am looking for or run across a recipe, what draws me in is does it bring that comfort, security and "good ole days" feeling in the pit of my stomach. If any of that makes any sense to anyone else.

    October 29th, 2009 at 3:45 am

  11. Joe says:

I look for healthy (most important), and easy to follow (2nd) in recipes.ones that have cooking tips which i can apply to other recipes are especially awesome.

  12. Jennifer says:

I look at what I have in the fridge and panty that needs to be used, then look for a recipe that we would like with some of those ingredients.

  19. Gina says:

I look for easy and fairly quick prep time. I also look for healthy but if I find a recipe that may not be the healthiest, I just try to substitute ingredients (low fat cheeses, turkey instead of ground beef, etc.). MLD has made me a cook! Thanks, Sunshine!

    October 29th, 2009 at 4:36 pm

  20. Sandy says:

What I look for in a recipe is how yummy it looks in the picture! Really, I do then I have to check to make sure it doesn't have anything I'm real allergic too.

  23. hanny#7 says:

i look for a recipe that leaves room for creativity. having everything on hand is a bonus, but not always realistic. keeping the integrity of the original recipe, but allowing for a little extra this or that is what i am usually looking for in a trusted, go-to recipe.

    October 30th, 2009 at 2:15 am

  24. Jay says:

I look to see if we have the ingredients -if we don't if we would use any ingredients needed ie. not crazy ingredients that we will only use for that recipe. And it can't be too complicated.

  25. Laura in TX says:

What we look for in recipes is mainly ingredients already in the house so we don't have to make a special trip to the store.

  28. Gina says:

I look to see if the recipe is a kid-pleaser and to see what, if any, of the ingredients we have on hand. If it requires a lot of "foreign" ingredients, then I move on to the next recipe. :)

    October 30th, 2009 at 4:21 pm

  29. Candace says:

I look for anything EASY! I am new to the whole cooking thing so it has to be easy ;)

  30. Owassofam says:

Well I have a family of five that is always on the go. I work full time as a kindergarten teacher and a husband that is a minister. We are very involved in our church and our children's activities. I am looking for some simple recipes with as few ingredients as possible. November 1st, 2009 at 2:14 am

  35. Lindsay says:

I definitely look for value over everything else. When going through a recipe, I evaluate the cost versus the number of uses, and the versatility. Also, i don't just want to make a different version of a same ol', same ol' dish – I want vibrance and creativity! Healthy is also a plus, but not necessary (especially in the case of alfredo…).

Quick and healthy recipes and easy to make!

Most importantly I look for a recipe that will feed a family of five! I hate it when I have to redo measurements to make sure it is enough to feed my family.

I also want something that the ingredients are simple, things I have on hand or items that are easy to find in the grocery store.

Last it has to sound yummy and be something that children will eat!

  55. Jessica says:

The more I cook, the more I realize that good, simple homemade food is almost ALWAYS better than a prepared version you can buy.
