Blogging for Books

September 4, 2009

LRTweetup has designated today as Blog for Books Friday, in honor of Reach Out and Read Arkansas.   We’ve been asked to blog about our favorite children’s book.  As soon as I read that, I knew exactly which book I wanted to share with you.  It’s a hilarious children’s book that my brother and I read together probably 1,000 times.  We would check it out time and time again from the library….we should have just bought the stinkin’ thing!  The name of it….When the Wind Changed

It’s about a little boy named Joshua that loves to make faces…some funny, some scary.  His mother would kindly ask him to stop making his faces, but of course he kept right on making them.  One day, his father told him that if he was making a face when the wind changed it would stay that way.  Joshua paid no attention to his dad until one day…..WHEN THE WIND CHANGED.  (You’ll have to read the book to find out what happened : )

I have to share one more of my favorite children’s books.  It’s been my favorite children’s book as an adult for about the last 10 years.  I discovered it when I taught 3 year olds (that are now almost 13…oh how time flies!).  My class LOVED it and it was requested by my kiddos each day.  I would read it to them during lunch time, which was very fitting.  The name of this story…..The Stinky Cheese Man!

It is a fractured fairytale of The Gingerbread Man.  “Once upon a time, there was a little old lady and a little old man who lived together in a little old house.  They were lonely.  So the little old lady decided to make a man out of stinky cheese.  She gave him a piece of bacon for a mouth and two olives for eyes and put him in the oven to cook.”  How cute is that!

And my favorite quote… “Run, run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m the stinky cheese man!”  It’s one of the funniest stories ever!

Now let me tell you how all of this came about!   The 1st annual Little Rock Twestival is coming up next Thursday, and they are doing a fundraiser to benefit Reach Out and Read Arkansas.   What in the world is Twestival, you ask?  It is festival for Twitterers (if there is such a word)…hence, Twestival!

LR Twestival will be held next Thursday, Sept. 10, at Cafe 42 in the Clinton Presidential Library at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are $10 bucks and a book (geared towards children 5 years and younger).  For more information, or to purchase tickets to the event, click here.

Can you come even if you don’t use Twitter?  Of course!  This event is for anyone in the Central Arkansas area that would like to help support Reach Out and Read Arkansas!  I would love to see you there!

If you do use Twitter, you can follow me @mldelicious, LRTweetup @LRTweetup, and Reach Out and Read Arkansas @GiveBooksAR!

Now, it’s you’re turn to share what your favorite book was when you were a kid!  I want to hear all about your favorite children’s books!
