Sweets For Your Sweetheart Week – Chocolate Hearts

February 9, 2009

Everyone loves rice krispie treats and this is a great little twist on such a classic treat.  Add a little chocolate and a heart-shaped cake pan (or cookie cutter) and you have the perfect Valentine’s treat!  And of course the best part…..it’s easy to make and your sweetheart will LOVE it!

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 1/2 ounces semisweet, or white chocolate, finely chopped
10 ounce bag marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies

Directions:

Lightly grease two 8-9 inch heart shaped pans or one 9X13 inch baking dish.

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add chocolate and stir until melted.

Add the marshmallows and stir constantly over the heat until completely melted. (If they start to scorch on the bottom, remove from heat and continue to stir, placing the pan back on the heat occasionally, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and add Rick Krispies until well combined. A rubber spatula or flexible pastry scraper works best.

Place the chocolate mixture into 2 greased 8-9 inch heart shaped pans.  Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until firm.

Note: You can also press the mixture into a greased 9X13 baking pan.  Cover and refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until firm, then cut with heart cookie cutter.
