So today’s photo(s) for Favorite Foto Friday go along with a story….quite a long story….and quite an amusing story…So brace yourself : ) (These are not actual photos of ours. Unfortunately, we left our camera in the car so I had to improvise)
For our 1st wedding anniversary we decided to go to Mt. View for a nice, relaxing weekend. The first day we were there we went to Blanchard Springs Caverns (as you’ve heard me talk about before for the 2 of you who read my blog : ) On the way there we passed a place that had horseback riding. Both of us agreed that that might be a fun thing to do if we had time and went on to the caverns.
Afterward, we came back by the horseback riding ‘place’ and decided to go riding. Neither of us had been in years and we both enjoy it. We go in to the ‘place’ (or old dusty shack as I like to call it) tell the lovely lady behind the counter that we’d like to ride. You could choose from a 30 min, 1 hour, 1/2 hour or 2 hour ride. And we chose….the 2 HOUR ride, because of course an hour or an 1 1/2 just isn’t quite long enough.
So, we go outside to meet our horses and our ‘tour guide.’ I wish I could remember their names, but I can’t. The horses looked ok. Then our tour guide comes walking out. OH MY GOODNESS. The woman comes walking out WITH A DIP IN HER MOUTH. Attractive, I tell you! Keith and I then knew we were in for the ride of our lives!
So, we get on our horses and off we go. We’re not 15 minutes in to our ride when Keith’s horse is lagging behind…WAY behind. My horse and the tour guides horse are speeding right along as you can tell they have done this a million times. Our tour guide turns around and yells, “Come on, Come on” very loudly (many times) to the horse (because of course, he totally understands what she’s yelling at him….from 50 yards away!) Keith’s horse continues to lag behind and starts pulling branches off of trees and eats them as he’s walking….the ENTIRE time! All this time, our tour guide is talking NON-STOP about absolutely anything and everything (and more than I ever wanted to know about her!). All we could do was laugh!
As we’re going on, I start to think that we’ve been out for quite some time (seeing how Keith did sign us up for the 2 hour ride and all : ) And our tour guide starts to tell us that we’re running quite a bit behind since Keith’s horse has decided to eat every tree in sight. She said, “No big deal. They’ll start searchin’ for us if we’re not back in 3 hours.” THREE HOURS??!! We better not be out here for no 3 hours, I was thinking to myself!
By this time my knees and my rear end are KILLING me. My knees were hurting because my feet couldn’t reach the stirrups and my rear end was killing me because I was swaying back and forth since I couldn’t keep myself straight…SINCE MY SHORT LEGS COULDN’T REACH THE STIRRUPS! (can you tell how much fun this was?!)
So, just when I think I can’t handle any more of this chick spitting off the side of her horse (because she kept this dip in her mouth the entire time….oh, yes she did!), she’s talking non-stop, Keith’s horse can’t go more than 5 feet without pulling a limb off of a stinking tree….
AND MY FEET CAN’T REACH THE STIRRUPS, we hear a 4 wheeler off in the distance. Ms. Tour Guide said, “See, I told ya they’d come lookin’ for us! But we’re almost there anyway. (THANK YOU, GOD, I said to myself!)
So, we get back to the shack after 3 AND A HALF hours of riding and we come up to the platform for us to get off of our horses. Oh my goodness, I could barely stand up when I got off. I was hurting SO bad. Keith gets off like it’s no big deal (no fair, AT ALL). And again, all we could do was laugh and know that we’d never forget this ‘adventure.’
And I will tell you this, I could barely sit down for the next 3 days. Keith found that very amusing, while I did NOT. I don’t think I’ve ever hurt so much in my life!! We made it through though, and have a wonderful story to tell our our nice, relaxing, trip to Mt. View for our 1st anniversary!
Moral of this story: If you’re on your way to Blanchard Springs Caverns and come upon a horseback riding place on the left-hand side of the road…..KEEP DRIVING!!!

That is the worst feeling! When you are so sore to even stand up or kneel that it is excruciating! Oh my! I’m thinking there was no romance left on that trip! Ha!
