Thanks to my grandma, I have a great love for hummingbirds. Growing up, she always had hummingbird feeders hanging in her yard and on her porch. I would always jump at the chance to make new hummingbird food for her whenever I was there (which was a lot since she lived right next door
It was always such a fun thing to do. After we would finish filling the feeders, we would sit on the porch or inside watching (very, very still she would always tell me) and it was so exciting when we would see them come back to the feeders to eat. My grandma loved all things hummingbirds, so I would always try to find neat and different little gifts to give her for her birthday or special occasions. To this day when I get my
hummingbird feeder ready I think of her and all of the wonderful memories we shared. When I was young, I didn’t realize just how special those memories would be or how her love for hummingbirds would impact me and give me a love for hummingbirds like hers.
I dusted off my hummingbird feeder this morning and filled it for the first time this year, which is where these thoughts came from. As I was making my homemade hummingbird food, I remembered my grandma telling me how to make it ~ 1 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar with a drop or two of red food coloring. And you must change the water every few days so it won’t get moldy : )
