A couple of days I wrote about the Twisters game that Keith and I went to a couple of weeks ago. Keith emailed the president of the Twisters letting him know that we where very disappointed in the cheerleaders attire and that we would not be attending any future games.
This is a small portion of the email that Keith sent:
“The Sirens attire – I consider the Sirens attire during the first half of play to be entirely inappropriate for a family event. I understand they are cheerleaders and this is not the 1950′s, but the bra halter top and tiny spandex shorts left less to the imagination than I consider proper. (It happens to be the same outfit they have their 2008 pose taken in). They did change for the half time show in much better clothing. It was shameful to see this display at something you advertise to be a family event and I dare not to allow my minor children to see such exposure.”
“I am only 1 man with a family but I will not be spending any more of my money to come to these games if the organization continues to deny that the majority of your market is families looking for family entertainment.”
This is the response we got from Mr. Jack Lankford, President Arkansas Twisters, Inc.
(I will spare you from all of his jibber jabber)…
“The Sirens are a professional dance team and have won numerous awards in past seasons and work extremely hard in the off season attending community events throughout the year free of charge. Their costumes are professionally made as well. One Siren has even made it as a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader.”
(notice there is nothing said about WHY their attire is the way it is, so I take it as their attire will remain as is and they see nothing wrong with their outfits)
“Over the last five years in order to create a fun family friendly environment we have created a Tailgate party with complimentary sodas and hot dogs , radio disney present at every game for the kids, purchased an inflatable jumper and conducted agility drills on Saturday in tune with our youth fitness night. Just the morning of the game we were on site at the March of Dimes walk to entertain kids free of charge. In addition, in the concourse area there is kidszone with a football toss and jumper all game long. We provided complimentary frisbees at the door, have family friendly promotions and strive to create the most inviting environment possible for families. Other themes this season include Indiana Jones night with the Twisters on May 10th, Faith and Family Night on June 14th and US ARmy night in which we honor future soldiers. We provide complimentary tickets to various youth organizations throughtout the year in our SOS Kidszone every game. Just this week our players visited access schools and brightened the day of all the special needs students there. We are proud to say we raised over $400 for their school. Regarding you just being one father and one family- you are the reason we have lasted nine years in Central Arkansas. The Twisters are here to develop the players and be an integral part of the community and have sustained longevity in the marketplace. I believe we make the community a better place and touch lives along the way.”
(Yes, it sounds like they are doing a lot in the community to create a “fun family friendly environment” ….and all of these things are great and dandy…but to me all that goes out the window when you walk into Alltel and see the cheerleaders that barely have anything on!!)
“I regret you were disappointed and apologize on behalf of the Twisters, but I would like to welcome you back with complimentary tickets to one of our future games.”
(and of course, to make everything better they offer us a pair of free tickets)
To say the least, I am not pleased. Not pleased at all. They president of the Twisters was sure to write a nice lengthy email back to my husband, but completely ignored the issue of what Keith wrote about in the first place. Needless to say, we will definitely not be going to anymore Twisters games.
