Keith snapped this shot with his cell phone and it is one of his favorite pictures. This dress was ‘the one.’ I went wedding dress shopping with my best friend Debbie, my friend Reggie (that’s like a mom to me) and Keith…..yes, Keith went, too! Everyone is always shocked when they hear that, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. The four of us had SO much fun! We went to David’s Bridal in Austin, TX. Keith wanted to propose in Texas, since he knew we’d be getting married in Arkansas (isn’t that sweet!) We went to Austin for Thanksgiving, and that’s when he proposed. We were out shopping for a dress the very next day since we were in town and my friends could be there with me.
I knew exactly what I wanted…..a very simple strapless dress. No sequins, no lace, no beads. Plain white dress. Easier said than done! I must have tried on at least 20 dresses, which started out fun, but after about an hour or so I was ready to call it quits. I was getting very frustrated and tired. I didn’t want to try on any more dresses, when Reggie points to a dress on the mannequin behind me and says, “what about that one?” It was exactly the opposite of what I said I wanted. Sequins and lace….but I thought, it’s worth a shot. I tried it on, and I knew… “This is the one!” Debbie was with me in the dressing room helping me get in and out of those monster dresses and as soon as I slipped it on she said, “That’s it!” When I came out of the dressing room I started crying (and so did everyone else!). I felt like a princess. And of course, it was full of sequins and lace….just what I said I didn’t want. But it was absolutely beautiful. One of my fondest memories ever!
